This is definitely good advice. People tend to procrastinate, and as engineering students, that is DEFINITELY not a good idea for us. High school doesn't really teach students how to study, and unfortunately, students find out the harsh truth at least one bad college semester after. Better learn this sooner than later! Thanks for the video! Listening to your advice is always a good way to pass the time.

I'm a senior atm. My advice: go into electrical engineering. Perhaps it's just my area and my university, but this industry feels like it's having an identity crisis and the lack of a cohesive idea of what it is really seems to be hindering the viability of the major. One mechanical engineer can have a VASTLY different skillset than another. I also feel like this major has really not adapted to the new technologies and programs available and the course-load is getting a bit too heavy overall and oscillating between requiring a deep understanding and a surface level knowledge. Again, it could just be my university, but it pains me to see what's happening to my chosen major--one that I adore the classical vision of (a person with a deep understanding of classical mechanics, manufacturing/fabrication, and a surface level understanding of electronics.) I blame material science and industrial engineering.

solidworks is not suited for bigger assemblies and is based on user friendliness rather than depth of functions and efficiency. Solidworks has way better marketing and offered cheaper licensing, but this wont matter to companies or departments that deal with smaller products and where geometries are not subject to aerodynamics.

Hey @EngineeringGoneWild, I've going at my Engineering degree for a while and I'm starting to discover that I'm starting to value areas that are not work related. I basically am not really liking the idea of working more than 50 hours a week. I like the idea of work staying at work with no one reaching me, and starting to have a crisis over my degree over this idea. Is it common to work really long hours in this profession? Is there a video you have that adresses this topic?

Omg my fiancé works for google and I’m an engineer. This is so accurate 😭😂😂😂 living in the most expensive county in the US doesn’t help. (Loudoun County, VA)

I'm so glad my 3 year bachelor in Switzerland only costs me 5'000 CHF and is closer to the real life industry/daily work. What are other areas you wished you have been more sensitized/taught during university?

I love engineering but it wasn’t paying the bills, a lot of companies like to hire on a project by project basis, atleast that’s how it was in the early 00’s, I was broke asf, I went back to school for nursing and I was earning more after 3 years as a registered nurse than I ever made as an engineer. It’s more stressful but I love the social aspect & I get a lot of respect from the docs for being an engineer lol! Not that it matters but it’s because they understand the academic struggle. I’ll say this, if you ever get tired of engineering or it no longer becomes profitable for you, medicine is a great option provided you pick the field that’s best for you, lastly, the nurse anesthetist field would suit alot of people with an engineer’s mindset, it’s filled with a lot of problem solving, science, diagnostics & it pays very, very well, and employment is not an issue.
